  • We are required by law (under National Vocational Education and Training Regulator Act 2011 (Cth) (NVETR Act)) to disclose the personal information we collect about you to the National VET Data Collection kept by the National Centre for Vocational Education Research Ltd (NCVER). The NCVER is responsible for collecting, managing, analysing and communicating research and statistics about the Australian VET sector.

    We are also authorised by law (under the NVETR Act) to disclose your personal information to the state training authority Australian Skills Quality Authority (ASQA).

  • The NCVER will collect, hold, use and disclose your personal information in accordance with the law, including the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth) (Privacy Act) and the NVETR Act. Your personal information may be used and disclosed by NCVER for purposes that include populating authenticated VET transcripts; administration of VET; facilitation of statistics and research relating to education, including surveys and data linkage; and understanding the VET market.

    The NCVER is authorised to disclose information to the Australian Government Department of Employment and Workplace Relations (DEWR), Commonwealth authorities, State and Territory authorities (other than registered training organisations) that deal with matters relating to VET and VET regulators for the purposes of those bodies, including to enable:

    • administration of VET, including program administration, regulation, monitoring and evaluation

    • facilitation of statistics and research relating to education, including surveys and data linkage

    • understand how the VET market operated, for policy, workforce planning and consumer information

    The NCVER may also disclose personal information to persons engaged by NCVER to conduct research on NCVER’s behalf.

    The NCVER does not intend to disclose your personal information to any overseas recipients.

Code of Practice

Macdonald Education Pty Ltd, trading as The Australian Real Estate Training College (ARETC) is committed to compliance with the Australian Qualification Framework (AQF). This means that, in operating as a Registered Training Organisation (RTO), it provides students with a high level of service built upon adherence to quality standards.

As part of the quality focus, ARETC adopts and implements the following legislative requirements:

  • Anti-discrimination, including equal opportunity, racial vilification, and disability discrimination

  • Workplace harassment, victimisation, and bullying

  • Occupational health and safety

  • Vocational education and training

  • Privacy

  • The policy of ARETC is fairness and equal access for clients, regardless of sex, marital status, pregnancy and breastfeeding, parental status, age, race, impairment, religion, political belief or activity, trade union activity, sexual orientation, ethnic or national origins.

    ARETC does not tolerate discrimination as it is illegal and a violation of State and Federal Human Rights legislation. Employees who violate this policy shall be subject to disciplinary action and where appropriate termination. All employees of ARETC have access to this policy.

    Students who feel they are being discriminated against during their dealing with ARETC are requested to make their complaint in writing or via email correspondence.

    ARETC has a policy of access and equity for all students. This policy includes, but is not limited to, areas such as:

    Information provided to clients

    Clients can access via the ARETC website, the Student Handbook, Privacy Policy, and the Code of Practice. These documents provide information on the administration processes and policies under which ARETC operates. In addition, the website contains information on the qualifications and statements of attainment available, the mode of learning, and the learning outcomes for each unit/course marketed.

    Clients are invited to call or email ARETC directly if they wish to clarify the information provided. All employees of ARETC have undergone training in dealing with client enquiries and are expected to deal with clients with respect and consideration.

    Enrolment procedures

    Clients are invited to enrol online via a simple enrolment process. In addition, clients are provided with a student profile form to complete. This takes place as part of the enrolment procedure. The student profile form allows ARETC to ascertain if any student has any learning needs, in order to administer training and assessment effectively.

    Providing support for those having trouble meeting the competency standards

    Online support through email access to ARETC is available, should any client require further assistance.

    As outlined in the assessment delivery procedure, students who find it difficult to obtain competency in particular units of competency, have access to Assessors who will provide guidance and support. Should difficulties continue, reasonable adjustment processes can be implemented to take into account the difficulties the learner may be experiencing. The principles of assessment will still be applied to any reasonable adjustment made.

    Reasonable adjustment application

    Macdonald Education t/a The Australian Real Estate Training College (RETC) will ensure a student with a disability that affects their ability to study will have the same learning opportunities and will be able to perform and complete assessments as those students without a disability.

    Any adjustment made will not compromise the integrity of the assessment and all Rules of Evidence and Principles of Assessment will be met.

    Examples of reasonable adjustment are:

    • Oral assessments (presentation, telephone interviews, face-2-face assessments)

    • Use of a scribe for assessment

    • Graphics or practical example to illustrate questions in an assessment

    Student diversity

    All students are encouraged to complete the student profile (enrolment) form. This form provides an opportunity for students to detail situations that may require addressing by ARETC.

    Encouragement and support in applying for Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL)

    ARETC recognises RPL as an important aspect of the competency-based training system, and ensures that all students are provided with information as to its operation. Students are encouraged to make applications for those units of competency where they can already demonstrate knowledge and skill. The application is a user-friendly online form, however, should assistance be required, ARETC staff is trained to provide appropriate information to support the process.

    Use of validation methods that invite feedback from persons of diverse backgrounds

    Throughout each educational program, students are encouraged to complete an online feedback/evaluation form outlining the strengths and weaknesses of the following:

    • Enrolment processes

    • Administration aspects

    • Information provided

    • Training and assessment delivery

    • Quality and timeliness of assessor feedback

    • Relevance of learning outcomes to the workplace

    Responses from the diverse group of students will be compiled monthly and considered as part of the management function for continuous improvement processes.

    Ongoing continuous improvement and risk management audits

    Continuous improvement is a major function of management and several systems have been implemented to ensure that stakeholder feedback is collected and acted upon. ARETC undertakes 6-monthly continuous improvement and risk management audits to ensure that the Australian Qualification Framework (AQF) standards are always being adhered to and that any non-compliance is acted upon.

    Use of administration strategies that align with the Federal Privacy Act.

    ARETC is bound to protect students’ individual and personal information. All student administration processes ensure that we do not provide personal information on students and their assessments. All employees of ARETC are aware of the Federal Privacy Legislation and how it affects the dissemination of information and follow ARETC policies and procedures on the use of the student administration system and the protection of students’ privacy.

    Use of administration strategies that align with State and Federal Human Rights Legislation

    All administration strategies follow a set of policies and procedures that ensure alignment with legislation, such as:

    • Work health and safety

    • Workplace harassment, victimisation, and bullying

    • Anti-discrimination legislation

    All staff members have access to policies and procedures manuals that outline how the legislation impacts the RTO’s operations. It is the responsibility of each staff member to comply with the legislation at all times. Ongoing staff training occurs, ensuring an understanding of the legislation and its impact.

    Each of these access and equity issues is embedded within the training and assessment processes outlined within this Code of Practice.

    Training and assessment

    All courses offered by ARETC are competency-based courses. Students are required to submit a portfolio of completed tasks and activities for assessment.

    Students will be assessed as either Competent or Not Yet Competent. All students are given the opportunity of re-submitting assessments if they have not met the competency standards required.

    ARETC has demonstrable experience and skill in providing or facilitating assessments, which meet the endorsed components of the relevant training package(s) and/or accredited courses on the scope of registration.

    ARETC is committed to ensuring a valid and reliable assessment of achievements against industry competency standards and all assessments undertaken remain consistent with the National Assessment Principles.

  • ARETC ensures that staff involved in assessment activities for nationally-recognised units of competency meet the assessor requirements as set by Australian Skills Quality Authority (ASQA). The requirements are:

    the vocational competencies at least to the level being delivered and assessed

    • current industry skills directly relevant to the training and assessment being provided, and

    • current knowledge and skills in vocational training and learning that informs their training and assessment.

    In addition, training and assessment may only be delivered by persons who have:

    • Certificate IV in Training and Assessment (TAE40110 or TAE40116), or its successor*, or

    • a diploma or higher level qualification in adult education.

  • ARETC ensures that a consistent and high standard of service is provided to all students. This is maintained by continuous improvement mechanisms that ensure the information provided by students, Employers, Assessors is used to enhance the delivery of training and assessment. These mechanisms exist within the organisation’s policies and procedures and are implemented on a scheduled basis.

  • ARETC asks for student feedback and feedback from other stakeholders such as industry, employers, and assessors in ensuring improvement and future development. This feedback takes the shape primarily through evaluation forms, however, intermittently, ARETC may develop questionnaires seeking information from students about the perceptions of client service and other areas of their training experience. In addition, focus groups may held with students, industry practitioners, and community representatives to provide input into improvement strategies.

    ARETC recognises the right of the Australian Skills Quality Authority (ASQA) to conduct audits on our training and assessment processes and services. These audits are supported by ARETC and all assistance is provided during the process.

    Macdonald Education will not draw false or misleading comparisons with other providers or courses.
